The Golden Goal

Blake Rodgers won the game for SNU with a golden goal in overtime

Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Blake Rodgers and Edgar Pineda had the magic touch as Pineda scored two goals in regulation that set up Rodgers' golden goal in the 95th minute to give Southern Nazarene the 3-2 win over Oklahoma Christian.
 
The Crimson Storm (1-1-0) got on the board early as Edgar Pineda scored his first goal of the season in the sixth minute off a pass from Ismael Fernandez to put SNU up 1-0. Pineda followed that up with a second goal in the 18th minute to give SNU a 2-0 lead.
 
The Eagles (0-1-1) closed the gap with a goal by Ante Susic off a cross from Troy Tippeconnic in the 32nd minute to cut SNU's lead to 2-1.
 
Both teams battled hard in the second half to take over the game. The Eagles tied up the game in the 69th minute when Troy Tippeconnic scored off a free kick from 20 yards out.
 
Neither team could break the tie in the 21 minutes left in regulation that forced extra time. Rodgers ended the game with a golden goal four minutes into OT off a cross from Edgar Pineda.
 
Oklahoma Christian attempted 25 shots with 11 shots being on goal. SNU attempted 15 shots with five being on goal.
 
SNU's Jeff Ray had nine saves and OC's Evan Helker had two saves.
 
Next up for the Crimson Storm is another away match versus a cross-town rival as they visit Oklahoma City Tuesday at 6 p.m.
