SNU fights through cold temperatures in 1-0 OT loss to Minot State

Box Score MINOT, N.D. ­— Southern Nazarene fought hard through 40-degree temperatures in North Dakota, but was unable to put the ball in the net in a 1-0 overtime at Minot State on a golden goal in the 95th minute.
 
The game was a defensive battle from the beginning, as neither team was able to get any offensive rhythm going in the first half. Both teams only attempted two shots, with both Southern Nazarene (2-1-0) shots being on goal.  Minot State (1-0-1) also attempted  2 shots with both being on goal.
 
The offensive intensity picked up in the second half as both teams attempted considerably more shots in the second half compared to the first. The Crimson Storm attempted five shots, putting four shots on goal.  The Beavers attempted nine shots, putting eight shots on goal. Both teams were getting good looks, but neither team could put the ball in the net in regulation.
 
Minot State came out strong in the first OT period. They attempted three shots, including the golden goal by Jamie MacFarlane in the 95th minute to win the game for the Beavers. The Crimson Storm did not attempt any shots in the OT period.
 
The Beavers attempted 14 shots in the game with nine being on goal. The Crimson Storm attempted seven shots, with four being on goal.
 
SNU's Natasha Fuentes recorded a career-high eight saves and Minot State's Gemma Biasetto recorded four saves.
 
Southern Nazarene will play the second game of their North Dakota road trip against Mary (N.D.) Saturday at 12 p.m.
