BETHANY, Okla. — It was a process that began nearly a decade ago, the last four of which have become well known on the Southern Nazarene University campus. The NCAA Division II Membership process though is now complete as SNU made the official announcement Thursday that it is now a full active member.
Â
Southern Nazarene now becomes the first private institution in the state of Oklahoma to be full active members in NCAA Division II and is the first school of six that left the NAIA's Sooner Athletic Conference to complete the process. Fellow Great American Conference member Northwestern Oklahoma State and former SAC members Oklahoma Christian and Lubbock Christian all enter the provisional (third) year of the process while Rogers State enters candidacy year two of the process. Oklahoma Baptist has been accepted for its first year of the process.
Â
SNU is now able to compete for GAC and NCAA postseason championships beginning in the 2014-15 academic year.
