BETHANY, Okla. — Bekah Stewart scored her first goal of the season Friday as Southern Nazarene University earned its third straight victory after defeating Missouri Southern State University 1-0.
Â
The Crimson Storm (3-1) forced a third straight shutout against the Lions (0-3) who could not shake free of SNU's dominating defense.
Â
Southern Nazarene is now officially on a winning streak after putting on another defensive clinic against MSSU. The Storm played the same defense that SNU fans have become accustomed to so far this season and once again had just enough offense to earn the hard fought victory. The game was tied until the 45th minute when Bekah Stewart took it to the middle of the field and blasted it to the top right corner for the score from about 15-yards out. That was the only goal of the night for the Storm, but it did not matter because SNU refused to give up a goal.
Â
"I think we played really well," said Head Coach Julie Duncan. "We worked the ball and created a lot of opportunities to score goals and Bekah put a beautiful shot away."
Â
The Crimson Storm only allowed three second half shots and none of those were on goal. For the game SNU only allowed 11 total shots and three shots on goal. Natasha Fuentes was credited with three saves. Yoli Zamarripa started the second half for the Storm and helped finish the shutout. The Storm took a total of 16 shots and four of those were on the frame.
Â
Next up the Storm will play at home Tuesday in a game against former Sooner Athletic Conference rival Oklahoma Christian at 7 p.m.
