CLAREMORE, Okla. — Josh Thomas scored his first goal of the season for Southern Nazarene University in a 1-0 win over Rogers State Tuesday night.
Â
The Crimson Storm (1-1) slowed down the Hillcats (0-1) offensive attack from the start.
Â
The game was a defensive battle the entire match until the 64th minute when Thomas got an assist from Blake Rodgers and Edgar Pineda to give the Storm the 1-0 lead.
Â
"We played well tonight," said SNU Head Coach George Schroeder. "We moved the ball well and were able to score a nice goal on a threw ball from Blake Rogers and Edgar Pineda and Josh Thomas had a nice goal."
Â
The Storm were dominant on the defensive side of the ball. Rogers State was only able to get five shots on goal and Tyler Wythe came up with seven saves.
Â
"We were extremely lucky to pull out the 1-0 win," said Schroeder. "Rogers State put a lot of pressing on us but we finally fought and got the shutout along with two great saves from Tyler Wythe."
Â
SNU put five of their 15 shots on goal.
