RiverHawks Soar Above Storm

Southern Nazarene lost 7-2 at Northeastern State on Monday night

Box Score TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Javier Caballeros scored his first goal of the season with 38 minutes to play in the first half off an assist from Josh Thomas to give Southern Nazarene a 1-0 first half lead, but SNU could not slow down Northeastern State in a 7-2 loss.
 
The Storm (2-12, 1-5 MIAA) got off to a hot start after Thomas crossed it across the field to Caballeros and he put it in the mouth of the goal for an easy score and gave the Storm a 1-0 lead. The RiverHawks (7-2-3, 4-1-1 MIAA) got their offense going with 25 minutes in the half after Joel Mendoza scored from the top of the box off an assist from Juan Peralta. Northeastern State scored another goal with only 14 minutes in the half after Lee Crosby scored his fourth goal of the season giving NSU a 2-1 halftime advantage.
 
The RiverHawks took 18 shots in the first half and the Storm took just four.
 
SNU could not slow down the RiverHawks in the second half. With 39 minutes to play, Brandon Carter scored from the top of the box to extend the lead to 3-1 and only two minutes later NSU scored another goal to make the score 4-1. The Storm were able to make things interesting with 22 minutes left after Josh Thomas scored off a header shot after receiving the assist from Avery Sanderson making the score 4-2. Northeastern State scored three more goals later in the half to win the game 7-2.
 
The RiverHawks attempted 38 shots and 17 were on frame. The Storm attempted five shots and two were on frame. Tyler Wythe had 11 saves for SNU.
 
The Storm now host Harding on Thursday, at 7 p.m. for a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association game.
