Delta State Holds Storm at Bay

Southern Nazarene's late charge not enough in 3-2 loss to DSU

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Devante Parker assisted on both of Southern Nazarene's first two goals of the year as SNU fell 3-2 Monday afternoon to Delta State (Miss.).

The Crimson Storm (0-3), who were shutout in its first two matches of the season, found the back of the net twice late in the 84th and 88th minutes.

Neither team scored in the first 72 minutes of play, but DSU scored all three of its goals in an eight-minute span. Jaxon Lambert connected on the first two goals to give the Statesmen a 2-0 lead. Lambert drilled one home in the 73rd minute from five yards out and then just seven minutes later scored again from eight yards out. Less than 30 seconds later, Stetson Chamberlain put one home from five yards out off a Jaxon Lambert assist.

The Storm got on the board first at the 83:47 mark on the clock when Hajime Chumpitaz took a pass from Parker and scored from seven yards out to make it 3-1. SNU got it down to a one-goal game with three minutes left when Daniel Hernadez Jr. put one past the DSU keeper to make it 3-2.

Delta State out shot SNU 14-8, but the Storm were just two back in putting shots on frame as the Statesmen had six shots on goal while Southern Nazarene had four. Blake Anderson posted three saves on the day while DSU's Milos Boskovic had two.
