Holding On

Southern Nazarene held off a furious charge from East Central in the second half

The freshman has two goals on the season.
Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Two early goals in the first half for Southern Nazarene was just enough to hold on for its second straight win in a 2-1 victory over East Central Thursday night.

The Crimson Storm (5-4-1, 2-2-1 GAC) dominated the first half and allowed just two shots total from the Lady Tigers (2-8-1, 2-3 GAC) in the first 45 minutes. SNU on the other hand, put six of its nine shots on goal and found the back of the net twice.

Nancy Williams finally broke the scoreless tie in the 37th minute when the freshman scored her second goal of the season when she drilled home a goal from about 10 feet out off a Sarah Nazary corner kick. Bekah Stewart then made it a 2-0 game in the 44th minute when she beat a defender on the left side of the box and laced one past the keeper to the right side of the goal.

The tables were turned though in the second half as SNU was held to just four shots with one being on goal, while ECU took aim on the Storm's goal. The Lady Tigers put eight shots on goal and took 12 shots in the second half and started to get back into the game.

East Central cut it to 2-1 in the 59th minute when Stephanie Flores ripped a shot off a Katie Glutz corner and buried it. The Lady Tigers had several looks late, but Yoli Zamarripa came up with eight saves, just one off a season-high, as the Storm held on for the win.

The Storm will now get set to host Western State (Colo.), Monday, for a 2 p.m. game.
