Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene went toe-to-toe with the Great American Conference's top team and No. 9 Southwestern Oklahoma State, but one bad break was all the Bulldogs needed in a 1-0 win over SNU.
The Crimson Storm (8-6-1, 4-3-1) took nine shots compared to eight from SWOSU and put three on goal while the Bulldogs put four on goal. It was just the third one-goal game Southwestern has played all year and the second 1-0 game in GAC play.
The lone goal came in the 59
th minute when Jessica Carbonara lofted a cross near the front of the SNU box and Samantha Nunez beat
Yoli Zamarripa coming out of the goal and took the ball in the air and laid it down on the right side of the box. She then turned and fired and found the back of the net. Zamarripa did come up with three saves though.
SNU had a chance to tie it later when
Sherri Collins had two chances in front of the net, but both shots found the legs of a SWOSU defender. The Storm also had five corner kicks, but couldn't get a break there either.
The home season now comes to a close Sunday as SNU hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. for senior day.
