BETHANY, Okla. — Nights like this just do not get old. No matter how many goals Southern Nazarene scores, the night just gets sweeter with every one. After the first three games of the year, SNU is nearly averaging 10 goals a game and posted its third straight lopsided win in a 6-1 rolling of Bacone.
Jackie Acevedo, who had scored 11 goals through the first two games, added another hat trick in the first half as the Crimson Storm (3-0-0) climbed to a 4-0 load at the half.
It didn't take SNU long to get on the board as Acevedo scored the first goal of the night. She floated a bouncing pass from Sheri Collins over the Bacone keeper to put the Storm up 1-0 in the ninth minute. The tandem paired up again just five minutes later when Acevedo nearly pulled off the same play from Collins to give SNU a 2-0 lead.
Mia Vabolis made it a 3-0 game with her third goal of the year off a
Bekah Stewart to Acevedo pass. Acevedo then capped her first half hat trick with her third, and 14th goal of the year, just before the half in the 44th minute on a
Bruna Da Cas pass down the middle after she received one from
Liana Phan for the dual assist.
Mia Vabolis scored her second goal of the game in the 58th minute when she split two defenders and then laced a shot over the top of the keeper to make it 5-0 Crimson Storm.
The Warriors (1-1-1) got on the board in the 64th minute, but Kayla Thompson put the finishing touches on the night with her fourth goal of the year in the 89th minute off an Acevedo assist to make it 6-1.
SNU's
Rachael Wade barely had to move as Bacone only took four shots and put just one on goal while the Storm took 35 shots and put 13 on goal. The Warriors' Veronica Helguera made seven saves on the night.
The Crimson Storm will now prepare to take their first road trip of the year when they travel to Mount Vernon, Ohio, to play in the Lady Cougar Classic at Mount Vernon Nazarene, Sept. 9-10. They first play Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 1 p.m. Friday.
