SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — Jackie Acevedo scored two goals and added an assist as Southern Nazarene stayed unbeaten in Sooner Athletic Conference play and won its fifth straight game with a 4-1 win over John Brown.
The Crimson Storm (9-2, 4-0 SAC) have now outscored their conference opponents by a combined score of 24-1.
An opposing goal might have been a nice wake up for Southern Nazarene as Cheyenne Padgett scored just 10 minutes into the game to put the Golden Eagles (3-6-1, 1-3 SAC) up 1-0. That was all the offense though for John Brown as it took just six shots and put five on goal.
The Storm on the other hand pounded the JBU goal with 24 shots and 13 being on goal. SNU forced Faith Thurman to make nine saves.
SNU didn't respond until the 37th minute when Acevedo fed Mallary Schaub for game-tying goal. The assist gave Acevedo her 61st point of the season as she tied Becky Atkinson's 1997 mark, which ranks second for points scored in a single season in school history. Before it was all said and done, the senior would take sole possession of second place.
Just a minute before the half, Acevedo scored her first goal of the game and then in the 68th minute she added her second off a
Kendra Nixon assist to move her point total to 65. Nixon put the game away in the 78th minute with a goal off a
Bruna Da Cas assist.
Only one spot is ahead of Acevedo on the list and that's Atkinson again who notched 85 points in 1996.
The Crimson Storm now get set to travel to St. Gregory's, Tuesday, for a 1 p.m. Sooner Athletic Conference contest.
