Box Score
BETHANY, Okla. — This late in the game, every win and every goal counts and this season will come down to the very last night for nearly everyone in the Sooner Athletic Conference, including Southern Nazarene who drew its first tie of the year at 2-2 with Mid-America Christian.
The Crimson Storm (5-10-1, 4-4-1 SAC) knew that coming in to today's game that with a pair of wins and a couple of things going their way over the next week could leave SNU in second place, but with a tie the water is still quite murky of where the Storm will finish.
SNU had a 2-1 lead through the first half and into the second after
Javier Caballeros scored his fifth goal of the season in the 37
th minute.
Josh Thomas took the ball form midfield and played it out to the left side as he was running through to Caballeros. The freshman then buried the goal to the right side of the net for the 2-1 lead.
MACU's Javier Hernandez though had the equalizer in the 61
st minute when he snuck one past
Tyler Wythe with a rocket from 20 yards off the right side.
That was the last goal of the night even through two overtime periods.
The Storm took the first lead of the night on an
Edgar Pineda goal when he dribbled down the right side from nearly midfield and then beat a defender. He then laced a goal to the bottom left corner to give SNU a 1-0 lead in the 20
th minute. Willy Deleon tied it for MACU in the 26
th minute before the final two goals of the game.
Both goalkeepers combined for 27 saves as Wythe picked up 13 for SNU and Cody English had 14 for the Evangels. SNU took 43 shots and put 16 on goal while MACU had 29 and put 16 on goal.
The Storm now get set for the regular season finale when they host Oklahoma City for an 8 p.m. SAC game.
