Rogers State holds on to knock off SNU

BETHANY — Three first half goals by Rogers State dug a big enough hole for Southern Nazarene as fell 4-3 to the Hillcats, Tuesday night. This loss moves the Crimson Storm's record to 3-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the SAC.

The first half belonged to Rogers State. Chelsea Myers scored their first goal 10 minutes into the first half, putting in a bouncing ball off a corner kick from Abby Rickner. Demi Mullen followed up with a second score barely five minutes later. Morghan Saliba put RSU up 3-0 on a corner kick in the 34th minute. In the first half, the Storm out-shot the Hillcats 11-6, though both teams had five shots on goal.

The second half saw a fourth Hillcat goal just 24 seconds into the half. Tiffany Roberts snuck a dribbler past the SNU keeper from about 15 yards out. Six minutes later Whitney Seaton scored the first SNU goal on a corner from Jackie Acevedo to bring SNU within one. In the 73rd minute, Acevedo dribbled the ball across the center and nailed a shot into the left side-netting with her left foot, to cut the deficit to two at 4-2. Crimson Storm hopes rose when, with only two minutes remaining in the game, Bruna Da Cas struck a long shot over the head of the Hillcat keeper from about 18 yards out, narrowing the score to 4-3. The SNU women were unable to score one more in the final two minutes of play as SNU dropped its first game of the conference season.

On the whole, the Crimson Storm had an incredible 28 shots, 15 of which were on goal. Rogers State only had nine shots, six on goal, but made everyone count. RSU keeper Chelsea McMullin had 12 saves on the day. SNU keeper Rachael Wade had two.

SNU now goes on the road for a 1 p.m. Saturday contest at John Brown.
