SNU drew its first tie with as Oklahoma Christian got a big game from its starting keeper

Box Score

BETHANY — Southern Nazarene knew as the final minutes ticked down in regulation that it would have a good shot for a golden goal after scoring two in its only two overtime matches of the year, but Oklahoma Christian's Natalie Goens came up with 15 saves to keep the game knotted at 1-1 from regulation on.

The Crimson Storm (9-5-1, 6-1-1 SAC) post their first tie of the year thanks in part to Goens who started her first game in goal. SNU peppered the Eagle's (2-10-2, 1-6-1 SAC) all night putting 16 of its 48 shots on goal. OC took just four shots the entire night and put just one shot on goal.

Even OC's lone goal was a misplayed ball by Kendra Nixon as she tried to play it back to Rachael Wade, who made three saves for SNU, in goal, but it was nearly a perfect header in the wrong goal as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute.

Just a minute later, SNU's Jackie Acevedo received the ball in the center of the field from Sara Eguren, dribbled right and struck the ball past the OC keeper and into the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

That was all the scoring the entire match. SNU took 19 shots in the first half and 16 in the second. The Storm dominated possession and had several plays that put the faithful in the stands on the edge of their seats, but never could punch the game-winner through.

SNU now gets set for a battle for second place in the SAC with Mid-America Christian as the Storm play their final home game of the year, Tuesday, at 6 p.m.
