Garret McGrady set a new indoor school record with a throw of 16.14 meters, which earned him a sixth place finish at the 2017 Indoor Track & Field Classic. McGrady's throw surpassed the NCAA Division II provisional which is 15.77 meters. McGrady had another throw break the school record, as his last throw of the day registered at 15.79, which beat the previous indoor school record of 15.56 meters that he set earlier this season.
