Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — For first time since Southern Nazarene joined the Great American Conference, SNU pulled off a weekly sweep as it capped the week with an 84-70 win over Southern Arkansas.
Â
Quan Conner tied a career-high for 3-pointers with seven as the senior scored 29 points and had four assists. Coincidentally, it was against the same SAU team inside the Sawyer Center a year ago that Conner hit seven treys to set his career record. He had 19 points and five 3-pointers in the second half. He finished 7-for-13 from the field and 8-for-8 from the line.
Â
"We did a good job of finding him in the second half," said SNU Head Coach
Adam Bohac. "We moved him from the top of the key to the corner and we made the extra pass against their zone and he stepped into a few and strung a few shots together."
Â
CJ Smith added 14 points while
Francisco Hukill added 10 points and four rebounds off of the bench.
Garrett Butler also had nine points with three 3-pointers.
Â
The Crimson Storm (7-6, 5-2 GAC) had 13 first half turnovers, but gave up just one in the second half and forced 22 turnovers by the Muleriders (5-6, 2-4 GAC). SNU scored 27 points off of SAU's miscues. The Storm shot 51.1 percent from the field and 48.1 percent from 3-point range, going 13-for-27.
Â
"The biggest difference in the second half was us not fouling and not turning it over," said Bohac. "That limited their transition points and we got better looks on the offensive end."
Â
Southern Arkansas led nearly the entire the first half and led by as much as seven in the first half before taking a 39-35 lead at the break. Southern Nazarene opened the second half on a 29-12 run to lead 64-51 with 9:23 left and the lead never got back in single digits. The Storm pushed out it to a 16-point lead twice to put the game on ice.
Â
"I've been telling people that we're getting better so I am happy that this has resulted in a couple of wins," said Bohac.
Â
The Crimson Storm now get set to head to East Central, Thursday, for a 7:30 p.m. GAC game.
