Emporia, Midwestern Too Much for Storm

Southern Nazarene loses both weekend games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Southern Nazarene University dropped both matches on the final day of the Hampton Inn-vitational Saturday, falling 3-0 to both Emporia State and Midwestern State.
 
The Crimson Storm (1-3) struggled at the net hitting less than .200 the entire day
 
"We did some good things this weekend, but there was just too much time between good things," said SNU Head Coach Kevin Ingram. "We have to be more consistent. There's just a lot of areas we need to get better in. We are not that far off though. We played some solid teams today. It's early and we are trying to see where we are as we move forward."
 
In the opening match, Emporia State (4-0) held SNU to just a .131 clip while hitting .227. The Hornets also had a trio of aces and didn't give up an ace. Taylor Jacobs led the way with her second double-double of the season with 17 kills and 16 digs and added a block as well. Jamie Hope had eight kills and five digs with two blocks. Kaylee Piatt notched her first double-double of the year with 29 assists and 13 digs, and added three blocks as well. Abbey Bell also chipped in with 10 digs.
 
Taylor Chase dished out a team-high 20 assists in the second match while Piatt, Hope and Jacobs all had five kills. Jacobs added 14 digs while Hope added seven and three blocks. Piatt and Abbey Bell each had six digs. Kira Roberts also had three blocks while Emily Dick had two.
 
The Storm as a team had five blocks and hit .071. The Mustangs (4-0) out dug the Storm 49-43 and posted a .274 clip.
 
Southern Nazarene now gets set to host St. Gregory's in the 2013 home opener, Tuesday, at 7 p.m.
