Shutout to High Scoring Affair

Southern Nazarene shutout Henderson in the first game, but dropped the second

Lambert notched her second complete-game shutout of the year.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BETHANY, Okla. — Two different games, and two completely different results for Southern Nazarene as it scored a 3-0 win over Henderson State before falling 8-5 to the same HSU team.

The Crimson Storm (17-32, 9-22 GAC) made quick work of the Lady Reddies (19-28, 13-16 GAC) in the first game ending it in just one hour and 10 minutes. There were just eight eights and three runs total, but there were 13 runs and 20 hits in the nightcap in a game that took about two hours to play.

Maci-Brooke Lambert (11-15) looked solid in the circle as the sophomore did not allow a run and gave up just four hits in the complete-game shutout. She didn't walk a single batter and struck out two. It was her second complete-game shutout of the year.

Southern Nazarene broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth with two. The first came in on an HSU error before Lindy Fluman doubled to left center to put the Storm up 2-0. Courtney Wiley then hit her second home run of the year when she went opposite field to left center to give the Storm the 3-0 lead.

In the nightcap, Henderson jumped on SNU early, scoring two in the first and four in the second to lead 6-0. The Storm got on back in the third on a Lady Reddie error and cut it to 6-5 with four in the sixth. The Storm took advantage of two Henderson errors as all four runs were unearned, but that was as close as SNU came. HSU added two more in the seventh to put it away.

Kylie Lang and Kaytie Spencer each went 2-for-4 in the second game to lead the way for SNU. Becca Webb (1-7) took the loss after giving up eight runs on 14 hits.

The Crimson Storm close out the GAC season Saturday with a noon doubleheader against Henderson State. SNU will honor its only senior, Amy Madden, in between games.
