Box Score 2 BETHANY, Okla. — It may have taken them four tries, but Southern Nazarene clawed their way back into a win with a 7-6 victory over East Central after giving away the first game 9-6.
The Crimson Storm (12-24, 5-17 GAC) gave up six runs in the final three innings of the opener, but rallied in the nightcap to score three in the final two innings, including two in the seventh to win it.
In the second game, the Lady Tigers (27-9, 13-5 GAC) led 6-1 heading into the third, but SNU got two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Madden single to center and a
Megan Blevens double to center. The Storm cut it to 6-4 in the of the fourth when
Jill Clemence beat out a play a first and SNU then got within one in the sixth when
Kylie Lang singled to short to make it 6-5.
After holding ECU scoreless for the final five innings of play, SNU got a break to start the bottom of the seventh. Blevens looked to be out on a fly to right, but East Central was called for an illegal pitch and then SNU got the bonus of two straight errors that allowed a run to score and put runners at second and third. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, SNU got a single to short by
Courtney Wiley to drive home the winning run.
Wiley led the way in the second game as the freshman went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Clemence went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored while Madden went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Maci-Brooke Lambert (7-11) picked up the win as she threw the final 5.2 innings and did not allow a run and gave up just four hits.
In the opener, Southern Nazarene struck first in the bottom of the first when Blevens belted a grand slam to straight away center to give SNU a 4-0 lead. East Central answered with two in the second and one in the third to cut it to 4-3, but the Storm answered with two in the bottom of the fourth. The first came in on a single to through the left side by Madden before
Kaytie Spencer drove in the other run with a fielder's choice to give SNU a 6-3 lead.
The Lady Tigers though took their first lead of the game in the top of the fifth with four runs to lead 7-6. ECU added two more in the seventh to put it away.
Becca Webb (1-5) took the loss after the freshman gave up six runs, three earned, on six hits in 2.1 innings of relief. Lang and Madden each went 3-for-4 as Lang scored two runs while Madden scored one. Madden also had an RBI. Clemence, Spencer and Blevens all went 2-for-4. Spencer scored a run and drove one in.
Southern Nazarene will now play at No. 1 West Texas A&M, Tuesday, 1 p.m. doubleheader.
