Southern Nazarene heads to the NCCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships

Miller and company look to put SNU on the NCCAA stage this weekend.

Southern Nazarene may have a chance to bring home some national championship hardware this weekend as it heads to the NCCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships Friday and Saturday.
 
The Crimson Storm will send 10 women and nine men who will compete in several events in Marion, Ind. SNU also has a handful of top five qualifying marks in various events.
 
On the women's side, Jackie Stevens as the second best mark this season with a school record 16.43-meter (53-feet, 11-inches) throw in the weight throw. She is also seventh currently in the shot put at 12.59 meters (41-feet, 3.75-inches). Kalicia Williams currently holds the fifth best mark in the shot at 12.91 meters (42-feet, 4.25 inches) and is in the top 25 in the weight throw. Jamie Hope is also seventh in the high jump as she cleared 1.63 meters (5-feet, 4.25 inches).
 
On the track, the Storm have three running in the 60-meter dash and the 200 meters. Mercedes Weaver, Raven McDaniel and Aliyah Nolan are 16th, 19th and 22nd respectively in the 60 meters with times of 8.07, 8.09 and 8.11 and each is separated by two-tenths of a second. McDaniel leads the way in the 200 meters as the three run 17th, 18th and 19th. McDaniel has the top time of 26.83 while Weaver holds a 26.90 and Nolan posted a 26.92. Lisa Childress will also run in the 200 meters as comes in with a qualifying time of 27.67.
 
CJ Hornback and Brooke Witt will run in the 60-meter hurdles as both have top 25 times. Hornback posted a 9.61 and Witt notched a 9.85. Those two will also combined with Childress and Ciera Johnson to run the 4x200-meter relay as SNU holds the second fastest time this year at 1:48.00 (4x220-yards).
 
On the men's side SNU has a few chances to bring home the gold.
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Rilwan Jimoh, Kentrell Miller, Korey Eakers and Sterling Wright hold the top time in the NCCAA at 3:21.38 and the same four ran the second fastest time in the 4x200-meter relay at 1:41.57 (4x220-yards). Jimoh and Eakers will also run in the 400 meters as Jimoh is currently eighth at 51.02 and Eakers is 13th at 51.45. Wright will also run in the 60 meters as he holds a top 20 time at 7.11 and Miller will run in the 200 meters as he also holds a top 20 time at 22.96.
 
Grayson Haws comes in as the NCCAA favorite in the 800-meters as the freshman posted the top time the year with a 1:55.85. He will also run as part of the 4x400-meter relay. Andrew Leahey also has a top 20 time in the mile at 4:24.97.
 
Scott Irvin and Michael Piatt are both tied for eighth heading into the national championships in the pole vault as they both have cleared 4.55 meters (14-feet, 11-inches). Hunter Stanley is also in the top 10 in the high jump as he has cleared 1.93 meters (6-feet, 4-inches).
 
The national championships get under way, Friday at 7 p.m., inside the Troyer Fieldhouse.
