PITTSBURG, Kan. — Southern Nazarene fought against fierce winds a scary weather conditions around both Kansas and Oklahoma, but still were able to get several top finishes at the Gorilla Classic.
Jamie Hope took fifth in the high jump at 1.59 meters (5 feet-2.5 inches). Chesney Burgweger ran a 2:29.78 and took 12
th in the 800-meter run. Jackie Stevens took 10
th in the hammer throw with a 41.66-meter toss.
Kentrell Miller and Sterling Wright went 8-9 in the 100-meter dash as just one-hundredth of a second separated the two. Miller ran an 11.03 while Wright finished at 11.04. Chad Mathis was close behind in 14
th at 11.19.
Gerrod Coney, Rilwan Jimoh and Corey Lulko all placed in the top 15 in the 200-meters. Coney ran a 22.10 to take seventh while Jimoh placed ninth at 22.20. Lulko ran a 22.59 to take 13
th.
Nigel Hampton finished above any NAIA school in the 800 meters as he ran a 1:59.29 to take seventh. Dustin Barrier ran a 4:09.16 in the 1,500 meters to take eighth. Aaron Goble also took 13
th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:37.98.
Travis Boyd took sixth in the hammer throw with a 49.90-meter toss and also notched a 14.34-meter throw in the shot put to take eighth.
