OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. —
Southern Nazarene moved right into second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference Thursday afternoon with an 8-7, 3-1 sweep of Mid-America Christian.

The Crimson Storm (23-11, 8-2 SAC) survived a scare in the opener after trailing 7-4 and then gave up just four hits and one run in the nightcap

SNU jumped out to a 3-0 lead with an RBI double to left by Kristina Forest in the top of the second and then a bunt single by Aubrey Jones, along with a MACU error in the third.

The Evangels though notched seven hits and scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to race out to a 7-3 lead. SNU got one back in the top of the fourth a Jill Clemence ground out that scored Forest.

SNU tied it in the top of the sixth with one swing when Amy Madden hit her ninth home run of the year to straight away center to bring home Forest and Kylie Lang as well. The Storm were down to their last out, and a runner on first, in the top of the seventh when SNU took advantage of a MACU error and a walk before Kylie Lang singled to center to score Kacey Acker for the go-ahead run and an 8-7 lead.

Jeneva Nelson (6-2) picked up the win after throwing the final four and two-thirds innings. She allowed just one earned run on six hits.

Forest went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored in the opener. Kylie Lang and Jill Clemence each went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Maci-Brooke Lambert (9-4) went the distance in the nightcap and gave up just one run on four hits and struck out three.

SNU got hits from seven different players as Aubrey Jones led the way going 2-for-4.

The Storm took the early lead in the top of the first when Clemence scored, after a one-out triple, on a Madden ground out. MACU tied the game in the third at 1-1, but Southern Nazarene answered in the top of the fourth with two runs after taking advantage of an Evangel error.

That was all SNU needed as Lambert gave up just one hit in the final four innings.

The Storm will now host Rogers State, Saturday, for a 12 p.m. doubleheader. All fans that wear a pink shirt can receive a free hot dog or hamburger as SNU “Battles Cancer One Pitch at a Time.”
