CONWAY, Ark. — Southern Nazarene nearly hit .500 on the day, going 30-for-63 at the plate in a pair of wins over Saint Mary (Kan.) and LSU-Alexandria. The Crimson Storm shutout Saint Mary in five innings, 9-0, before getting a 10-5 win over LSUA.
The Crimson Storm (14-8) have now won four straight and seven of their last eight.
Kristina Forest went a perfect 7-for-7 on the day with an RBI, two doubles and four runs scored. The senior went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the opener as SNU pounded out 16 hits. Four players recorded at least two hits as 11 different Storm recorded a hit. Southern Nazarene scored a run in every inning, but the fourth.
SNU took a 1-0 lead in the first before pushing four across in the second to lead 5-0. The Storm made it 6-0 in the third before putting it away in the fifth with three.
Aubrey Jones also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Katie Turner went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Maci-Brooke Lambert (6-3) picked up the win as she struck out four and gave up just four hits. Jeneva Nelson threw the final inning and set USM down in order.
In the nightcap, Forest went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored all from the ninth spot in the lineup.
SNU quickly jumped out on LSU-Alexandria, scoring three runs in each of the first three innings and looked to be on its way to a route. A Jill Clemence single made it 1-0 before Amy Madden hit her eighth home run of the year to put SNU on top 3-0.
Forest then led off the top of the second with a double before she scored on a Kylie Lang double to left. Clemence followed that with a single and Madden drove the final run of the inning across with a double to left center to put the Storm on top 6-0. Lang put SNU up 8-0 in the third with a double before Madden gave the Storm a 9-0 advantage with a single.
SNU tacked on one more to lead 10-0 on Forest's single to left that scored Aubrey Jones.
The Storm then with stood runs in the fourth and seventh by LSUA to get the win. Alexandria scored three in the fourth and two in the fifth and took advantage of four SNU errors.
Jeneva Nelson (3-1) picked up the win after throwing the final four innings. She gave up just two runs on three hits and struck out six. Kaci Crawford gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits in three innings of work after getting the start.
Lang went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Clemence went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Madden drove in four runs and scored one while going 3-for-4.
SNU will now close out the CBC Invitational with a doubleheader, starting at 11 a.m., with No. 16 Williams Baptist (Ark.) and Lyon (Ark.).
