Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Logan Martin put on the best show of her 4-year career at Southern Nazarene Saturday afternoon as the senior scored a career-high 34 points and buried a career-high seven 3-pointers to lift No. 16 SNU over Oklahoma Baptist, 84-69, inside the Sawyer Center.
Martin's previous career-high came against Madonna (Mich.) last year with 27. She had a season-high for 3-pointers with six in the first half alone. The senior was just two threes short of tying the school's single-game record, going 7-of-8 from downtown and was 11-for-19 overall from the field. She also added six rebounds and three assists.
“I spent a little more time this week in taking some shots,” said Martin. “Everyone played harder tonight and that made the difference in the team's intensity. My shots hadn't been falling recently and it's been frustrating, that extra time paid off tonight.”
The Crimson Storm (13-4, 7-2 SAC) have won five straight and eight of the last nine. After being out rebounded by 16 just two nights ago, SNU owned OBU on the glass as the Storm out rebounded the Lady Bison 50-30 and scored 22 second chance points off 23 offensive rebounds.
Abbey Marra had eight of those offensive boards as she finished with 12 total and notched her sixth double-double with 12 points.
Oumoul Thiam also added 16 points and five assists and
Sharmeda Johnson was just a point short of a double-double with nine to go with her 11 rebounds.
“Abbey did such a good job tonight after getting into foul trouble early,” said SNU Head Coach Lori Carter. “You could tell she was locked in during the second half and we started to fed the ball to her. We started spreading out and letting her go one on one in the post.”
There were eight lead changes in the first half with the final one coming in the midst of an 8-0 run by Southern Nazarene at it took a 39-33 lead and carried a 42-38 advantage into the break. SNU opened the second half with a 15-4 run to lead 57-42 and never looked back
Martin had 22 points in the first half alone as she was 8-for-11 from the field and 6-for-7 from 3-point range in the first 20 minutes.
The Storm shot 44.3 percent (31-70) from the field and were 42.9 percent (9-21) from 3-point range. It was the fourth time this year that SNU has hit at least nine 3-pointers and the first time it has shot over 40 percent from beyond the arc in five games.
“When you hit shots it changes everything,” said SNU Head Coach Lori Carter. “We haven't been consistent this year in shooting the ball, but we fought hard and Logan look like the All-American first team player that she is. We had a whole team stepping up and doing what we need them to do to get a big win against a good team.”
The Crimson Storm will now get set to host No. 1 Oklahoma City, Thursday, at 6 p.m.
