BETHANY, Okla. — Just one night after Jackie Acevedo tied Southern Nazarene's school record for most goals in a single game with five, the senior bested her previous performance with a school-record six goals in a 13-0 drubbing of Northwood (Texas).

Acevedo not only broke the previous record held by SNU Head Coach Julie Duncan, but also became the second leading goal scorer and points leader in school history. She has scored 11 goals in the first two games of the season, which is half of her 22 goals she scored in 2010 and that ranked her at the top of the Sooner Athletic Conference and fourth in the NAIA.

“She's worked phenomenally hard all through training camp to get to this point,” said Duncan. She has been exceptional. She leads by example. Jackie has grown so much as a player and person over the past two years because of her desire to be the best at whatever she does. That's such an inspiration to everyone else on the team.”

The Crimson Storm (2-0) already had a 2-0 lead on back-to-back goals from Sherri Collins and Kayla Thompson before Acevedo scored her first goal. Acevedo though knotted a natural hat trick in just a matter of six minutes. She scored the first goal in the 16th minute off a Bruna Da Cas assist and then ripped her second goal in the 20th minute to give SNU a 4-0. Just two minutes later Acevedo found the back of the net for a third time. She didn't let up from there as she scored her fourth straight goal in the 24th minute before Mia Vabolis capped the half with a goal in the 40th minute.

"When I broke the record I kind of jokingly waved at coach as to say goodbye to her record, but it was great to share that with her and the team," said Acevedo. "While it's nice to say you've done something like this, that moment lasted just a split second and then you turn your focus back to the team and know that we have much bigger goals in conference and postseason. I'm more happy that we're finding success early."

It was more of the same in the second half as Acevedo opened the second with two straight goals with the record-breaking goal coming in the 50th minute.

Bekah Stewart, Da Cas, Whitney Kloiber and Kayla Thompson scored the final four goals as SNU scored the second most goals in a single game in school history. The previous record was 19 set against McPherson, Sept. 8, 1994.

“We've played well the last two nights,” said Duncan. “While Jackie has been the story, the team as a whole has been strong. We as a team have stepped up and played well in our system. We also know that this is only two games in and we have a long season ahead of us. If our effort stays at this level we will be competitive in every match we play.”

With just one assist Acevedo would have tied Duncan's record of 13 points set that same day she broke the single-game goals record as she had three assists to go with her five goals.
